David Bickley's Wargames Blog

The occasional ramblings of an average gamer, journeyman painter, indifferent modeller, games designer, sometime writer for Wargames Illustrated and host of games in GHQ.

Somewhere in France 1940

A few pictures from today's game here in GHQ. I'll not say much more, since it seems few folk can be bothered to look and even fewer to comment, perhaps the blog has run its course? Anyway: Rapid Fire2; lists from Blitzkrieg Battlegroups by same; figures by Foundry, Footsore and Warlord; terrain bits by The Last Valley and Sentry Models ~

Suffice to say British morale collapsed in Turn 7 after heavy loses and three consecutive morale checks!

  1. I think my morale would break sat in a Rolls Royce watching all those German tanks roll over the hill ! A different setting ? For you David not sure we have seen early war other than Zeelowe ? As for the blog I will be cross if you stopped 😡

    1. I lost really due to a poor decision which I compounded by repetition, plus the delayed arrival of my tanks!

    2. No doubt some mechanical failures in those early British Vickers !

    3. Rather dreadful dice in reality, but that will no doubt translate into mechanical failures.

  2. Lovely looking terrain and troops, the British soft skinned vehicles are charming!

  3. I am chomping at the bit to see the new scenario book. While I usually do my own scenarios for most other periods, I am quite happy that the RF fellows do all the research for the WWII games. Great looking game here. I love the terrain - always have.

  5. A great looking game David and a favourite period of mine too. Shame the chaps couldn't stop Jerry, but better luck next time!

I know your feelings about the lack of Blog comments, given the effort that goes into a post and the number of followers. I have the same issues on my Blog and I know other Bloggers do too. I enjoy your postings and I hope you feel able to carry on in the future.

  7. I don't always comment, but your blog is a great source of inspiration and I do recommend it to others. Which reminds me that my FB site has gone very silent lately!

  9. A most enjoyable game. RF worked rather well in 28mm. Although that's more than can be said for our MMGs Mr.B. ;-D

  10. Trouble with commenting with the iPad again, tried twice. Great looking game and I envy your comments page, double and more than I get. It doesn't mean people don't appreciate your efforts though it is nice. I have not done anything for the past couple of weeks, but then again I am not doing a lot at the moment either.

    1. You may be right George, I think I'm just a bit down at present, but I really don't understand why anyone would follow a blog and then never say anything at all about even one post.

  11. Now, now David, your blog definitely hasnt run its course. Frankly Im amazed at the eclectic armies you possess, and enjoy seeing what you are about. Over the last few weeks Ive be re-reading some of my wargames magazine collection and the number of times your name crops up is pretty sickening. No wonder you retired early given all the royalties you must have made.Just keep buggering about.

  12. Another lovely game at GHQ and I place I love to visit for inspiration! As for blogging I try and remind myself blogging isn't just for others, but also for yourself when things start getting a little quite as things tend to ebb and flow for the long time bloggers like ourselves.
