8th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry

The latest figures to enjoy passing across the painting desk from Lead Pimple to GHQ are a unit of Dixon Miniatures ACW Union Infantry in the guise of the 8th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry ~

I wanted a slightly blue-grey colour for the pants, so I opted for Foundry Union Trouser Blue mid washed with GW Nul Oil and lightly dry brushed with Foundry's Arctic Grey shade. This helps them stand out slightly on the table during a game from the mass of Union Infantry painted in my more usual choice of colours. Otherwise they are painted much like the rest of the collection when it comes to choice of colours, washes and such. The flags are by GMB Designs and the bases by Warbases, as ever ~

There are two regiments of Reb infantry left in the Lead Pimple now, though I have made a small order for half a dozen figures from Trevor to enable me to upgrade my Confederate deployed limbers as I did the Union ones. When they arrive I'll hopefully process those a tad more quickly than their Union counterparts! I can but hope...

  1. Another delightful addition to your ACW collection Mr.B. I look forward to them becoming "disordered" and "blundering" about the battlefield.

  3. Another lovely unit David and I particularly love the dynamic nature of the poses on the base, as you really get the feel of a unit in action:)

    1. Thanks SteveJ, the dynamic poses are the great strength of Dixon's ACW range!

  4. Well done David. I know you like the pumpkin heads but they do look far better when painted. Perhaps you should consider purchasing Dixon's as Trevor apparently wants to retire.

    1. Thanks Robbie! As to Trevor, well I'd guess I'm older than he is, so a buy out unlikely...๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป

  9. Another nice looking unit David, everyone to their own but personally I am not a great fan of including wounded figures in ranked units as they look so odd when the unit is marching to the front. My preference is to base them separately and then place them on the table when the battle is commenced.

    1. Thanks Your Maj! I have separate casualty bases too but seldom use them for much, they hark back to my times on the display circuit! I think now more in terms of vignette style bases, telling the take or evoking a feeling. But, as you rightly say, each to their own.
