Refurbished Roosian Artillery.

While my main focus has been firmly on the Grenadier Guards to complete my Guards Brigade, I've also been plodding on with more refurbishing and rebasing of elements of the Prodigal Foundry Collection, namely some of the Roosian artillery groups. Alongside these I've managed to make a fifth infantry battalion from figures I'd somehow overlooked previously, though this required rather more thought on my part. More of them in a later post I expect.

Jon had done some rebasing himself so I opted not to remove those figures and guns but rather just to grass and tuft them in my usual style. The basing paste is a different shade of light brown, but it will do just fine for me. The remaining two 12lb guns and crew are finished in my usual style. The result is a battery of three 12lb guns and a lone 6lb Cossack artillery piece ~

Some closer shots to compare the basing colours and textures.

I know rather more now than I did in the early 1980's when less information was readily available in English. There are numerous errors in my painting here, but I've opted to leave things as they are as a kind of gentle reminder of how far and wide our wonderful hobby has evolved!

Next up in the queue for refurbishment and rebasing will be the British Artillery, both Royal Artillery and Royal Horse Artillery batteries, complete with limbers and command. It's all go on this project it seems, for the moment anyway...

  1. The bases meld in quite nicely I think.

    1. Thanks for that, encouraging as the British artillery is similar in basing/rebasing.

  4. A nice visual effect of the shirt sleeves with the bigger guns and the overcoats for the Cossacks. It makes it easy to identify.

    1. Works well doesn't it, but down to pure chance back in the 1980's?

  7. Fine work and I must admit I love those Cossacks, just because of their headgear!

  8. Splended work there once again! Mistakes are for the gronnards & button counters in my view... we all made many mistakes in the 80s, the vast amount of freely available information we can access nowadays compared to the use of libraries back then....
