On now to Tuesday's SYW replay with Phil as Lord Rawnsley leading the British! A second defeat! At least, as Phil commented on the previous post, I am consistent. Anyway, wiping away a tear, a few pictures from the game which I hope will be of interest to any passing souls ~
The Grenadiers De France advance with élan a plenty, sadly sans supports as it turned out...
A rash advance by the Hussards de Bykli came to naught in the face of all that British infantry...
While the Orleans cavalry get stuck in the Irish repel a charge by the Scots Greys...
The unsupported Grenadiers De France are assaulted by the 1st Foot Guards...
The 11th Foot march boldly forward, undeterred by the presence of multiple French infantry regiments in classic grey-white coats...
Having defeated their first opponents the Orleans cavalry take on fresh opponents, more of the Scots Greys...
At last the Royal Grenadiers and the French and Swiss Guards arrive to support the Shaken but unbowed Grenadiers De France! Not that it did much good in the long term...
The Orleans cavalry rout, soundly thrashed by the Scots Greys! Much other French cavalry remains uncommitted...
The Irish beat off yet another cavalry charge. Rather more than the French were managing across the wider battlefield by then...
Sadly in Turn 9 the French army reaches breaking point and concedes the field to Lord Rawnsley's command...
On a related front I have finished painting my last addition, for now, to the French SYW collection in the shape of a second regiment of the French Guards. I just have to grass n' tuft their bases and they can be photographed for a future blog post. I've also found 4 British Grenadiers in the Lead Pimple so they are ready to join the painting queue shortly. Next week, in the last game before the Christmas season brings a pause in activity here in GHQ, a 1920's Pulp game using modified Bolt Action rules. The Dons will lock horns in Howardville once more, for the first time in several years...
A lovely collection to get to the table. I particularly like the horse, are they from a single manufacturer?

DeleteA grand game of manoeuvre and counter manoeuvre with what has to be your prettiest 18th century armies, a joy to play with. Men of the battle have to be those British grenadiers dodging every ball the French could fire at them throughout the action. On the French side accolades must go to the Grenadiers De France who for several turns held up the British advance on that flank singlehandedly.
