Bringing on another generation?

Well, we can only sow the seeds of enthusiasm and hope. William, our second grandson, has always been keen and so today he came to GHQ for a small game. Just a couple of pictures now of him enjoying himself, and beating Grandad into the bargain ~
William orders his men to advance! 
It's not all plain sailing though as his tank goes up in flames, just after he'd seen mine off too. After this his dice rolling beggared belief and my force was blown away!

      Indeed, the course has been set, where the breeze takes him now is his own developing interest.

    Good stuff. Whether its wargames, cameras, cars, art, cooking or whatever, you never know when that button will be pressed that will give a life long passion, all you can do is provide the opportunities.

      Thanks for a thoughtful response Norm which touches on the central point, opportunity. So many youngsters are denied opportunity in all sorts of spheres, but we can only do our best in our circumstances.

    Hi David- Starting your Grandson with VBCW is certainly the way to go- lots for him to experience. I started rather later- probably at 10 or 11 years with a box of plastic AIRFIX Union Infantry - my first Wargame as such wasn't until I was 27 years old - a Viking Skirmish to Donald Featherstone rules.     Nothing like a resounding win in his first game to encourage him to ask for another go! I mentioned this on another blog recently - but it seems to me that kids today do not have the same generic opportunity to get interested in toy soldiers. When I was your grandsons age - late 60's - all young boys had collections of Britons, Timpo etc 54mm soldiers PLUS Aifix 1/72 and often an Action Man or two thrown in - today, playing with toy soldiers or making scale military model kits is nowhere near as common/popular.....

      Of our four grandchildren three are interested in either painting, gaming or both. The other is into trains, so even he is not beyond hope!
