...of a new Early Saxon warband. There will be three bases making up the warband, when I've finished painting them that is! The figures are from 1st Corps and the 80x50mm base from, you guessed it, Warbases!
As you may recall I have been having occasional problems with getting the hand & weapon pieces to stick to the figures. With that chasenning experience in mind I glued the shields on these before spray undercoating them! I'm pleased to say that they are firmly fixed on, less pleased to say I failed to consider how fiddly painting some parts of the figures would prove to be! I have managed to cope but do urge you not to look too closely!

The shield transfers are from LBMS, now owned by Victrix. They sell the sheets unpunched for other companies' figures but fully punched for their own. Strange that you might think, if you were less of a sceptic than I am. That aside the shield transfers do fit quite well so far, something that has not always proved to be the case with previous projects.
I have sent off for a further warband from 1st Corps, this time all the figures are Young Warriors standing with spears. I had hoped to add some Gripping Beast figures but in the end these worked out cheaper, and I am a wargamer after all. I've also added two sheets of shield transfers as they were available, so saving on P&P! As I said, I'm a wargamer after all...

Beautiful work again David!
ReplyDeleteThank you once again Michal, always appreciated.
DeleteNice additions. You have identified the constant problem with shields and when to add them - too early and they are hard to paint around, too late and they are hard to make stick. I usually stick late. The other two issues with this are: first lovingly painted detail gets completely hidden, and second sometimes the figures go around for ages without shields as I've not got around to painting them. You have succeeded better than I have in some cases.
ReplyDeleteStephen
Although its fiddly to paint figures with shields attached, equally cock-ups behind the shield are not usually visible! Anyway, that's my defence and I'm sticking with it! Thanks for your support again Stephen.
DeleteA lovely cohesive base with all figures at ‘the run’ lurching forwards. The shield transfer with the triangles is particularly eye catching.
ReplyDeleteI wonder whether punching transfers is such a laborious job that for reasons of time / effort Victrix just go the extra mile for their own stuff.
Spot on Norm! If the lack of punched holes sways one more customer their way its a plus for them. In a long back and forth between us they finally suggested they need to work on the issue...
DeleteDid LBMS offer them punched?
DeleteSometimes as I recall.
DeleteVery fine Mr. B. Those triangles remind me of road works signs🙂
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil, as always much appreciated! Roadworks? We know them only too well!
DeleteNice figures, David, and clever marketing from Victrix!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ray. We'll have to disagree about marketing.
DeleteNicely done Mr.B! The lads from 1st Corps offer a good product and competitive prices in these austere times.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon!
DeleteA lovely base of Saxons, and always a problem with shields, to glue or not to glue that is the question!! I put an order into 1st Corps recently, good deal on with their sale, quick turnaround too!
ReplyDeleteAgree on their sale, it helps the warchest stretch!
DeleteMore a 'home run' than 'first base' with these David:)! I always stuck everything together before painting, to gaurantee as good adhesion as possible. Although some parts were hard to reach with the paint, they were out of sight, so a darkish colour more than surficed to blend it all together.
ReplyDeleteYou are quite right SteveJ!
DeleteNice work David, they look splendid, colourful shields 👍
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt. The shield designs draw the eye I find, which is as well given my modest painting skills.
DeleteA lovely first base David really captures the savage Saxon charge!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christopher, just the response I hoped for on the base's figure composition.
DeleteLooking good David…
ReplyDeleteThe wild charge looks good as do the shields…
All the best. Aly
